Connecting...

Fave!

So, I tried twittering a while back and failed (miserably!) to provide more than a beginners tweet.  I could hardly call it a tweet, it was more of a twe...

So here I am 6 months later, giving it another try!  Hey, if anything shouldn't it at least be easier to micro-blog at 140 characters a tweet than these 2-3 paragraph blogs?

Each day, we have more and more options to stay connected.  Some we opt into right away, some we hold off on to see if they achieve some staying power and some, well they just don't catch on at all!

Facebook, myspace, twitter, linked in, flickr (and the list keeps growing day by day!) Who can keep track!  Social media has been blowing up for a while now.  Heard an interesting comment at a roundtable conference the other day.  Something to the effect of media agencies not having any numbers to prove the impact that social media outlets achieve in influencing customer behaviour. Makes you think, once these agencies figure out the business model on these vehicles I'm thinking the numbers will fall out from there!

Finally, a shout out to all you 13-19ers!  Introducing the "facebook of physical activity"... it's been called the sickest way to live healthy.  Sogo Active!  Register by May 31st and you have an amazing opportunity to be selected to become a Torchbearer for the Cancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay! A once in a lifetime opportunity, my friends.  Tell your sisters, brothers, cousins, parents, friends, everybody. Let's inspire the nation.

So? what are you waiting for?  Go!

Ps.  A word of caution to all, use your social media wisely...  If you bail on plans like a debbie downer with a (not so) truth, don't get caught with photos on Facebook!  =)

Sick Days...

A short one, but a sweet one..  Well not so sweet, but I assure you it's short!

Sick days.

Not a favourite.

Also, they're really not all for you.

When you're sick you should get outta the office!

10% because you need to get better but 90% so that other people don't get what you have!

6 weeks and counting...

Life Renovations...

Favourite!

It's been a while but here's my April plan.

Posting it for two reasons.

1)  I miss this blog!
2)  If I write it on here and announce it to the world (or the few people still reading this) then it makes it a teeny bit more likely to happen!

So - April is here, my bank account is feeling a little empty, my jeans are feeling a little tight (and not due to wads of cash filling the pockets either!)... I'm declaring April a get my sh*t together month!

For all of you who understand... here's my pared down April OGSM.

Objective:
To feel better about my life (organization, savings, future, body, health).

Goal:
1. To save $2000.
2. To lose 10 pounds.
3. To bring my cost per gym visit (for the month) down to at least $10 per visit (eventually I hope to be closer to $5 but for now - baby steps!)

Strategies:
1.  Keep busy!
2.  Plan ahead!
3.  Enjoy my stuff!

Tactics:
1a.  Go to the gym every single day (getting the value of my membership, staying away from places where I will spend my money, feel better, less stress... Benefits are endless!)
1b.  Plan activities that don't cost money with friends, family and others!  Thinking... Walks through my city, runs with a friend, having friends over for coffee or tea... I'm at a loss already so I will have to do some more thinking on this one!
2a.  Grocery shopping each week!  Bring my own lunch, have stuff for dinners instead of wanting to go out... Healthy and cost effective!
2b.  Avoid shopping malls, stores, restaurants and other money suckers like the plague!
3a.  I already get Fashion and Vogue (my top two magazines), so why do I feel the need to purchase every $2.99 magazine on the shelf? (no matter what I have thought in the past, $2.99 is not even really cheap, let alone free for a trashy magazine!)...I'm going to read F&V from front to back!  The rest of my info's going to have to come from the good old internet!
3b.  Read the newspaper every day!  This should take up a good hour per day that I would otherwise use for... let's say... shopping!
3c. I have about 4 closets of clothing minimum.  Stop buying clothes...  'nuff said!

Measures:
1. Spend per week (for that matter I am going to track per day!)
2. Pounds per week.
3. Inches per week.
4. Number of gym visits per week.
5. Hours of sleep per week.

Hopefully all of the above makes for a happier Leslie! Wish me luck! Updates to come!

I'm back baby!

The Perfect Friday Night...

While I do enjoy a night of dancinglikemylifedependsonitredbullchampagnechuggingdon't stumblehomeuntil5:00AMwhenit'ssofreezingoutsidethabronchitisisaguarantee...

Tonight was perfect.

Chick flick and catch up at 7 with a great friend. (We've got to master the "fan dance" - it's right up there with emoticon dancing!
Walk through Chapters (steering myself away from the magazines).
A 9:45 stop at the convenience store (sorry, couldn't resist the magazines).
Curling up on the couch with a stack of magazines, a grape crush with sex & the city on TV in a cough syrup (+ codeine) filled stupor.

Mmm. Fave.

Sunday Afternoon Quotes...

Here's a little one from a fave show!

You can choose to blame your circumstances on fate, or bad luck, or bad choices.  Or you can fight back.  Things aren't always gonna be fair in the real world, that's just the way it is.  But for the most part, you get what you give.  Let me ask you all a question, what's worse - not getting everything you wished for, or getting it but finding it's not enough?  The rest of your life is being shaped right now, with the dreams you chase, the choices you make, and the person you decide to be.  The rest of your life is a long time, and the res of your life starts now.

The Hair Series: Greys...

NOT A FAVE!!!

It has been a while but here goes...

One grey hair six months back?  Chalk it up to one big race and a couple of other thousand notches on the to do list.  Another last week?  Understandable...I guess.  I am growing up.  But three in the past week?  Clearly something is not working for me!  (For those who aren't counting - total 5 before the ripe age of 24!)

And so I freaked.
Stressed?  Oh hello!
And then I plucked.
And now we're good.
Until I find the next piece of fishing line growing out of my head!

Re-do's...

Fave!

One of the best things about being half chinese (half chicken, half duck as it has been affectionately called...) New Years Resolutions not going so well? Hello Chinese New Year, Hello Round Two of New Years Resolutions!

This time, instead of a long list that I (occasionally) put off for seemingly more important things like, well work and sleep - I am going to Simplify and Go! Here's three...

1. Be Present. I think we all get too caught up in the need to be multi-tasking at all times. When you're there be there. When you're in a meeting, be there completely. When you're at dinner, don't pull out your crackberry! Be there 100%. That's when you will see the best results. 99% on anything and everything should never be good enough.

2. Be Active. In everything. Not just literally moving more, which we should all do! But be active in conversations. Be active in meeting new people. Be active in trying new things, whether it is an exercise, a food or who knows what else!

3. Be Better. Be better than average. Be better than your last. Be better than the competition. Be better than you can even imagine. They say no one is perfect, so this one is easy for us all.

Kung Hei Fat Choi!

Be Presidential.

Stepping away from the fave's for a day - Who in the blogsphere does not have "Baracking the Vote" on the tip of their tongue?

Whether you were for, against, undecided, didn't care or otherwise. Can you say you were not inspired by today's inauguration?

Maybe inspired by the hope for change. Perhaps touched by the engagement of millions. Me? I saw charisma. A plan. A confidence to act presidential. I saw a standard of greatness. Too often in our life, we settle for mediocrity. We are too tired to push harder. We settle when we should be striving for our own achievement. Be better. Practice. Get out there. Do more. See more. Live with purpose. Turn over a new leaf. Take your potential into your own hands and do something great. Be Presidential.

Exciting. But you know, being in NYC for election night was not too shabby either!

And that, my friends, is my anthem of inspiration.

Go get 'em!

In Her Shoes...

Fave!

Used to say I was a purse girl. Shoes? Not my fancy. Then one day I realized, a great pair of shoes is like a great piece of art!

In the words of Vivienne Westwood..."I like to literally put women on a pedestal." And rightfully so.

So for your inspiration... Drum roll please...

Every girl needs a bright idea or two. Compliments of Karl Lagerfeld. The man, not the future puppy (Another day, another post).
Once in a while we all need to turn everything on its head and jump out of the box! Introducing Marc Jacobs...

And finally, one of my favourite clients and one of, if not the most powerful brands ever... Are these for real?

Unfortunately, the unlimited shoe budget I dream of does not exist. Therefore, here are a few of my fave's and not so fave's in the "I can actually afford it" department...

Fave's:

- The Killer Black Heel (a must have!)
- The Trendy Bootie (with jeans, tights, shorts, skirts, hot hot hot!)
- The Classic Ballet Flat (not to be worn around my taller friends!)

Not so fave:

- Wedge's... though this may be somewhat like when I say I don't like greek salad and really who doesn't? ;)

Guest Blogger...

Oh, hello there.

Your usual host has buried herself in her notebook, so in the interest of keeping a post per day on this blog... here I am.

Oh, I'm also going to stick with a certain someone's pattern by posting my current "Love".

Love: DARIUS MILES, aka "The $18 Million Man"

Darius Miles chose to forego College and declare for the NBA draft directly out of high school in 2000, eventually beginning his NBA career with the Los Angeles Clippers (see here) Many (maybe just me) thought Miles would have a profound impact on the league. What happened in the ensuing years was a classic NBA story: too much talent, not enough work ethic, a huge contract extension ($48 million to be paid over 6 years, to be exact), until injuries turned Miles into a total afterthought.

An afterthought until last week, that is. While I won't lay out the entire fiasco, the latest of it is that when Miles checks into the game for the Memphis Grizzlies tomorrow night, it will take a cool $18 million out of the Portland Trail Blazers' pocket. No, it won't put an additional $18 million into Miles' pocket (he gets that anyway - oh, the beauty of the NBA and guaranteed contracts), but it will surely derail the high hopes the Blazers had for the 2009 and 2010 offseasons. And until last week, no one (except Bill Simmons) seemed to see this coming.

The recent Miles news-frenzy (maybe just in my eyes) has re-ignited my love affair with this NBA player. At this point, I don't know what would be more satisfying -- to see him waived at the conclusion of his current 10-day contract, making it that much more of a slap in the face for the Blazers, or to see him rise to his previous dominant self (aka 13 ppg, 5rpg, 1 blk, 1 steal in his "prime"). Regardless, it's certainly satisfying to see him having a profound impact on the league, even if it isn't exactly what people foresaw.
